By Aderonke Ojo
Doma United Football Club of Gombe thrashed FR Eburuaja FC of Orlu 4-0 on Wednesday in Abuja to advance to the round of 16 of the 2023 Federation Cup competition.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the round of 32 fixture at the Area 3 pitch saw the amateur side fighting hard but failing to dominate the game.
The tempo of the game changed however when Samuel Chibueke gave the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side the lead after scoring from close range in the 12th minute.
The fightback from FR Eburuaja FC was impressive, even though it was lacking in the necessary composure and organisation.
Doma United went on to double their lead in the 53rd  minute through Haruna Aliyu.
Chibueke scored the second goal of his hat-trick in the 79th minute, before capping the day in the 85th minute with a simple tap to a low cross.
Speaking after the match, Daniel Omeka, the Technical Adviser of FR Eburuaja FC, said their players tried their best but found goalscoring to be difficult.
“But we will go back to work more on correcting our mistakes.
“We will go back and build more confidence in them and the aspects of psychological and technical knowledge too.
”We hope that when next we have this opportunity we will go far in the race,” he said.
On his part, the coach of Doma United FC, Akinade Onigbinde, said his team’s performance was not bad and they played well in the game.
“We played well and created lots of chances, some of which we converted into goals. It was not a bad game,” he said.
Onigbinde however said their aim of playing in the competition was to go far and they are hopeful of being in the final match to lift the trophy.
“We will go and prepare well for our next match,” he said.
