Federal Government Launches Aerial Pest Control in 11 States to Boost Food Security

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has initiated an aerial spraying campaign against migratory agricultural pests in Kebbi State and nine other frontline states.

This proactive measure targets quelea birds and other transboundary pests that pose a significant threat to the nation’s food security and the livelihoods of its farmers.

Kebbi State, with its extensive farming activities in rice and wheat cultivation, was chosen as the launch site for the spray due to its high level of agricultural productivity.

Governor Nasiru Idris lauded the initiative, expressing confidence that it would protect crops and lead to increased harvests and food production.

The threat posed by quelea birds and other transboundary pests to Nigeria’s food security cannot be understated.

These pests have a devastating impact on crops, particularly rice and wheat, which are essential staples in the Nigerian diet.

By taking decisive action against these pests, the federal government aims to safeguard the nation’s food supply and support its farmers.

The aerial spraying campaign is a testament to the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

As the country continues to grapple with economic challenges and the need to ensure food security for its growing population, initiatives such as this one will play a crucial role in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and fostering resilience in the face of adversity.
