FCT will reinstate monthly sanitation to keep Abuja clean—Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that his administration will reintroduce monthly sanitation in Abuja as part of strategies to keep the city clean and healthy. Wike made this known on Monday after a closed-door meeting with contractors handling different projects in the FCT.

According to him, the monthly sanitation will take place on two Saturdays in a month, from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., during which residents will be expected to stay at home and clear their surroundings of refuse and dirt. He also said the FCTA will provide logistics and support for the evacuation and disposal of the waste collected by the residents.

Wike said the decision to reintroduce monthly sanitation was approved by President Bola Tinubu, who also expressed his commitment to making Abuja a safe and beautiful environment. He said the initiative will also help curb the spread of diseases and infections that are caused by poor hygiene and sanitation.

“We must all make sacrifices. There is nothing like we are going to suffer. You also contribute to the refuse. So, if you spare three hours on a Saturday at home to clear the refuse and bring it out for us to evacuate and dispose of, then that is the little way you can help,” Wike said.
