Christian Eriksen collapsed during Denmark's friendly match against Ukraine on Sunday. The encounter ended 2-1 in Denmark's favor.
Video footage captured the midfielder grabbing his chest before falling in the 65th minute. Officials immediately halted the match and rushed him to hospital.
Denmark's football federation released a statement via X confirming his status. "Christian Eriksen is conscious and doing well under the circumstances," the statement read.
Morten Boesen, the national team doctor, provided more details about Eriksen's condition. He's the same medical professional who saved Eriksen's life during a 2021 cardiac emergency.
According to Boesen, Eriksen walked off the pitch on his own. "The pacemaker responded as it should," the doctor noted.
Eriksen lost consciousness briefly but regained it very quickly. Medical staff established contact with him almost immediately after he came to.
Hospital staff will conduct additional tests to identify what triggered Sunday's incident. Both the hospital doctors and federation officials remain in regular contact with him.
Back in 2021, Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 match in Copenhagen. He faced Finland in that championship encounter and received emergency CPR that proved lifesaving.
