EU’s von der Leyen calls for more military support for Ukraine at G-7

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has called for more military support for Ukraine at a summit for the seven major democratic industrial nations (G7) in Japan.

“We need to give Ukraine the tools now to successfully defend itself and regain full sovereignty and territorial integrity,’’ she told G-7 leaders.

“We should provide Ukraine the necessary military and financial support. And we have to do this as long as it takes,’’ she said.

Von der Leyen highlighted the evasion of Western sanctions on Russia.

Micro-processors, chips and sensors are sent to Russia and “end up in weapons used against Ukraine on the battlefield,’’ she warned.
