A false claim about voter registration in Delta State is making the rounds online. The Independent National Electoral Commission has moved to set the record straight.
INEC denied reports that the Continuous Voter Registration exercise had stopped in Akwukwu Igbo. The supposed reason for the suspension was a broken registration machine, according to the viral post.
Mrs Nseabasi Udom, head of voter education at INEC, released a statement on Friday dismissing the claim. She described the publication as misleading and not authorised by the commission.
Registration activities are proceeding normally across the area. The commission deployed its team to Ibusa on Thursday where operations ran smoothly.
Akwukwu Igbo's registration centre will reopen from July 6 to 10, INEC explained. This follows the commission's approved rotation schedule for local government areas.
Citizens in the community should ignore the false information circulating on social media. All eligible voters are encouraged to register without worry.
INEC urged residents to trust only official channels for updates about voter registration. The commission promised that no disruptions or cancellations would occur.
According to the statement, every qualified citizen has equal access to the registration process. INEC remains committed to ensuring the exercise stays transparent and credible throughout Delta.
