Lagos hosted the 12th Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards on a night that belonged entirely to one film. "My Father's Shadow" walked away with five major prizes, cementing its status as a defining moment for African cinema.

The film explores a father-son relationship against the backdrop of Nigeria's turbulent 1993 presidential election. It combines intimate family storytelling with the weight of political upheaval.

Producers Fumbi Ogunbanwo and Rachel Dargavel accepted the night's biggest honour, Best Movie. Brothers Wale Davies and Akinola Davies earned Best Writing for their script's authenticity and emotional depth.

Director Akinola Davies Jr. took home Best Director for his creative vision. The film's technical achievements were equally impressive across multiple categories.

Sound designers Pius Fatoke and CJ Mirra won Best Sound & Sound Design. The musical score by Duval Timothy and CJ Mirra also took Best Score/Music honours.

"Colours of Fire" and "To Kill A Monkey" emerged as the evening's second-biggest winners. Each film claimed three awards.

"Colours of Fire" was recognized for Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction, and Best Lead Actor, which went to Uzor Arukwe. "To Kill A Monkey" secured Best Supporting Actor for Bucci Franklin, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing.

Actress Linda Ejiofor made history with a double win. She took Best Actress for "The Serpent's Gift" and Best Supporting Actress for "The Herd."

The series "Inimba" also achieved a remarkable feat. It won both Best Series (Scripted) and Best Indigenous M-Net Original.
