Police in Edo State arrested two men on June 26, 2026 for orchestrating a fake kidnapping scheme. The operatives from Igarra Division moved on credible intelligence, authorities said.
According to Eno Ikoedem, the Police Public Relations Officer, Taiye Enahoro and Lucky Alabi allegedly hatched the criminal plot on June 23, 2026. Enahoro made several calls to Alabi's relatives claiming he'd been abducted.
He demanded N4,000,000 as ransom for Alabi's supposed release. Both suspects confessed to their roles in the staged kidnapping during interrogation.
Ikoedem told reporters the men would face court charges once investigations wrap up. "The command reiterates its commitment to ensuring all persons involved in criminal acts are brought to justice," he noted.
Police Commissioner Monday Agbonika warned Nigerians against staging kidnappings to extort money. Such schemes exploit the trust of innocent family members, he cautioned.
Residents should report any suspicious activities immediately to law enforcement. Vigilance from the public remains essential, the PPRO stressed.
