Authorities in Nasarawa State have arrested multiple foreign nationals and Nigerian citizens suspected of running illegal mining operations in Amba community, located in Kokona Local Government Area. The arrests took place on Friday, 17 July, during a security crackdown spearheaded by Deputy Governor Dr.

Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe.

Ebenezer Daniel, the governor's personal assistant on chieftaincy matters, announced the operation through a Facebook post. He didn't immediately reveal the identities or exact number of those detained.

The state government views the operation as part of its wider push to stamp out illegal mining and enforce compliance standards across Nasarawa's solid minerals sector. Officials have intensified efforts to rein in unauthorised mining activities that have long plagued the region.

The operation reflects growing pressure on authorities to regulate the state's mineral resources more effectively. Security agencies have ramped up patrols and enforcement actions in mining hotspots.
