Edo Deputy Governor Shaibu Vows to Resist Godfatherism in Gubernatorial Race

Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, announced his intention to contest the 2024 governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Shaibu made this announcement at the Biohop Kelly Centre in Benin City on Monday, November 27, 2023, expressing his confidence in the support of the Edo people and his determination to continue the work he and Governor Godwin Obaseki have started in the last seven years.

During his speech, Shaibu emphasized that he would not be intimidated by any form of godfatherism in his pursuit of the governorship.

He stated that he is a “home boy” who has felt the pains of the Edo people and is committed to developing the state. He also mentioned that he has the support of the people and is unstoppable in the forthcoming election.

Shaibu’s decision to run for the governorship has been met with mixed reactions from the public.

Some view his candidacy as a continuation of the work he and Governor Obaseki have started, while others are skeptical about his ability to stand up against the potential return of godfatherism in Edo politics.

The Edo State governorship election is set to take place in September 2024, and it promises to be a closely watched race.

With the declaration of Philip Shaibu, the political landscape in Edo State is sure to be filled with excitement and anticipation as the election draws near.
