Economic Hardship: NLC Shuns FG, Kicks Off Protest Nationwide

In a bold move to address the nationwide economic hardship, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has commenced its two-day nationwide protest, despite a last-minute meeting with the Federal Government ending in a deadlock.

The protests have seen a heavy presence of security personnel across the country as citizens express their frustrations with the current economic climate.

The closed-door meeting on Monday night, attended by representatives from both sides, failed to reach an agreement on the matter.

Among those present were the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN); Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejeocha; Minister for Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari; Minister of Finance, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Planning, Atiku Bagudu; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Head of Service, Folasade Yemi Esan; as well as representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, confirmed to journalists that the protests would go ahead as planned, urging security agents to protect the protesters as they exercise their right to peaceful assembly.

Ajaero further stated that the NLC’s list of demands would be submitted to the National Assembly today.

The nationwide protests, which began at various locations across the country, aim to draw attention to the economic hardship being faced by the Nigerian people and to urge the government to take swift action in addressing the issues at hand.

The NLC’s decision to continue with the protests despite the meeting with the Federal Government underscores the urgency of the situation and the determination of the people to seek change.
