Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, has pledged stronger collaboration between the state government and the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Delta State Chapter, to advance healthcare delivery and gender equity in the medical profession.
Dr. Onojaeme gave the assurance when he received a delegation of MWAN, led by its President-Elect, Dr. Onyia Owa-Nwabuzo, during a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Health headquarters in Asaba.
He commended the association for its role in promoting maternal and child health, medical outreach programs, and advocacy for women’s empowerment. The commissioner also reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to partnering with MWAN on public health campaigns, community interventions, and capacity-building for female professionals.
Earlier, Dr. Owa-Nwabuzo expressed appreciation to the commissioner for the warm reception and acknowledged the Ministry’s progress in improving healthcare across the state. She said MWAN remains dedicated to supporting government efforts toward universal health coverage and the reduction of maternal and infant mortality.
She explained that the visit was to formally introduce the newly elected executive committee and to strengthen collaboration between MWAN and the state government.
The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to improving health outcomes in Delta State and promoting professional excellence among female doctors.
