DESOPADEC Commissioner, Joyce Overah is dead

The Commissioner representing Sapele, Okpe and Ethiope West Local Government Areas on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Hon. Joyce Overah is dead.

Overah, a former House of Representatives member, representing Uvwie, Sapele and Okpe, 2007-2011, died on Tuesday afternoon in Sapele at the age 60, after a brief illness according to a family source.

One of his close aide, Freeborn Ojarikre who confirmed his death told our correspondent in tears said, the death was shocking, “we are still trying to come to term that oga has died, he died this afternoon, that is all I can say”

It was further gathered that Overah died at about 12:15 pm this afternoon at a private clinic at Ugbeyiyi road area of Sapele.

Reacting to his death, the chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon Eugene Inoaghan, described Overah as a friend, a brother and a colleague whose death will be hard to take “he was a brother who you could reach out at any time and his death is really heartbreaking, who will I call? He was a party man to the core and so humble” he said.

Austin Ayemidejor, Director of Asaba International Airport, who was also close to the late House of Representative member, said Overah was one of Sapele finest politician “He was a brother and friend who would listen to you and act. His death is shocking and difficult to accept, his parents are still alive, why would Overah leave us at this time we needed him most,” Ayemidejor added.
