In a high-stakes operation, Delta State Police Command has neutralized three suspected kidnappers and armed robbers who recently attempted to abduct the wife of a Delta State lawmaker, killing two police officers in the attack.

The operation, which led to the recovery of four AK-47 rifles, according to a press release issued by SP Edafe Bright, Public Relations Officer for Delta Police Command, Asaba, said the state police command are top of its game to raid Delta of all forms of crime.

Following the September 2 incident, where the assailants fatally shot two mobile policemen and the driver of the targeted vehicle, Delta Police Commissioner CP Olufemi Abaniwonda ordered a strategic lockdown of all routes in Warri and surrounding areas. According to the report, operatives of the Ebrumede Division, led by DPO CSP Iwok Ndifereke, established a traffic hold-up at the DSC roundabout, where they identified the suspect's vehicle by its registration number. Spotting the police presence, the suspects opened fire before abandoning their vehicle and fleeing with bullet wounds.

The suspects’ escape prompted CP Abaniwonda to direct Ebrumede Division to pursue the criminals relentlessly. On October 3, CSP Ndifereke’s team traced the suspects to a hideout in Agbarho. A fierce gunfight ensued, leaving three suspects fatally wounded. Another AK-47 rifle was seized at the scene. The injured suspects were taken to the hospital, where they were confirmed dead.

CP Abaniwonda praised the DPO and his team for their bravery and urged other officers within the command to demonstrate similar commitment. Efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members are ongoing.
