The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers believed to be part of a notorious gang that attacks churches at night, carting away instruments and other valuables.

Delta State Police spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, who stated this in a press release, said Police operatives intercepted the suspects on September 16, 2025, after receiving a distress call about an imminent attack on Dominican City Church along Polytechnic Road, Ogwashi-Uku.

According to him, the Police operatives acting on the directive of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, DPO Ogwashi-Uku Division, CSP Israel Okomoyon, led a swift operation alongside local vigilantes that stopped a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna van with registration number EFR-150-XB.

The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Emiowor (21) and Noah Philip (20), both of PTI Road, Warri. A search of the vehicle yielded one pump-action gun, three single-barreled locally made guns, one locally fabricated revolver gun, one live cartridge, and an iron rod allegedly used to break church doors.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a syndicate that specialises in attacking churches,” the Police Command said, adding that some stolen properties have already been recovered. The duo remain in custody while discreet investigations continue.

Commissioner Abaniwonda reaffirmed the Command’s determination to root out criminal elements. “Delta State will never be allowed to become a safe haven for crime. We remain relentless in pursuing offenders and dismantling their networks,” he declared.

The CP urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing credible intelligence. He also reminded the public that they can report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency line 08036684974 or at the nearest police station.

Police spokesman SP Bright Edafe reiterated that the latest breakthrough reflects the Command’s commitment to intelligence-driven operations in synergy with community stakeholders.
