The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta North Senatorial District has thrown its full weight behind the creation of Anioma State, proposed as the sixth state in Nigeria’s South-East geopolitical zone.
In a formal letter dated November 3, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Senate Sub-committee on State Creation, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, the APC Delta North Zonal Chairman, Chief Adizue Eluaka, affirmed that Anioma is “ready for statehood.”
Chief Eluaka stated that the people of Delta North are united in their resolve, describing the demand for Anioma State as a quest for fairness, equity, and strategic balance within Nigeria’s federal structure.
“The APC Delta North Senatorial District is fully and unequivocally in support of the creation of Anioma State. The realization of Anioma State stands as both a matter of fairness and strategic advantage for the federation,” Eluaka declared.
He noted that there was no dissenting voice across Delta North against the proposal, emphasizing that the agitation aligns with the principles of justice, equity, and historical continuity.
Eluaka urged the Senate to honour the legacy of Anioma’s founding fathers, such as Chief Dennis Osadebey, stating that the creation of Anioma State would strengthen national unity, deepen representation, and promote administrative balance across Nigeria.
The APC chieftain also commended Senator Ned Nwoko for his leadership and courage in sponsoring the Anioma State Creation Bill, which seeks to correct the long-standing imbalance where the South-East has only five states, unlike other geopolitical zones that have six or more.
He further highlighted that the Anioma proposal was among the most detailed and comprehensive before the National Assembly, a testament to the region’s preparedness and commitment to statehood.
Recalling Anioma’s historical experiences, particularly during the civil war, Chief Eluaka said the creation of the state would help heal old wounds and restore pride and identity among its people.
Reaffirming that Anioma is fully prepared for statehood, Eluaka concluded that the move would enhance the South-East’s political representation, expand its landmass, and strengthen its economic viability.
“The creation of Anioma as the sixth state of the South-East will reinforce Nigeria’s political stability and national unity. It is both an act of justice and a reaffirmation of the Senate’s responsiveness to the aspirations of the Nigerian people,” he said.
