Wife of the Delta State Governor and founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Saturday led hundreds of women and supporters on a fitness exercise tagged “You Matter Walk for Life” in Asaba.
The event, which combined fitness, prayers, and praise, kicked off at the Inter-Bau Roundabout and ended at the Office of the First Lady in the New Government House, Asaba. Participants walked through the Anwai–Illah Road, targeting 10,000 steps each, with intermittent aerobic sessions and prayer stops.
Addressing the crowd, Deaconess Oborevwori said the initiative was designed to promote healthy living, spiritual renewal, and social bonding among women and families across Delta State.
“The goal of today’s walk is to achieve 10,000 steps! How do we reach this? By multiplying our individual efforts — one step at a time — walking together in unity and with a shared sense of purpose,” she stated.
Quoting 1 Timothy 4:8, the Governor’s wife emphasized the importance of combining physical exercise with prayer for “total transformation,” stressing that holistic wellness—physical, emotional, and spiritual—is essential for purposeful living.
She commended the women for their massive turnout, describing it as a testament to their unity and readiness to support one another and the state’s development agenda. She also appreciated the Federal Road Safety Corps, fitness coaches, and the government house chaplain for ensuring safety, coordination, and spiritual guidance.
“We have prayed, stretched, danced, and shared in the spirit of fun and togetherness. My prayer is that we all return home healthier, stronger, and happier than we came,” she added, promising that the You Matter Walk for Life will become an annual event.
In his exhortation, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemene, urged participants to embrace humility, unity, and service to God and humanity.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Mrs. Timiebi Guwor, wife of the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, thanked Deaconess Oborevwori for her “motherly love, inspiration, and selfless concern for the well-being of Delta women.”
The event ended with prayers for peace, health, and progress in Delta State, as participants cheered the success of the maiden edition of the "You Matter Walk for Life."
