The Wife of the Governor of Delta State, Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has officially commissioned the state-of-the-art Oko Event Centre in Oko Amakom. The event also featured the launch of a ₦50 million empowerment programme benefiting 500 residents of Oshimili South Local Government Area. Each recipient received ₦100,000, while 20 bags of rice were distributed to each political ward within the council.

The Oko Event Centre, an initiative of Hon. Dr. High Chief Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, the Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, was hailed by the First Lady as a transformative project with the potential to drive economic growth and social cohesion within the community.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deaconess Oborevwori commended Dr. Obi Ezenyili’s grassroots-focused leadership, describing the project as a milestone in improving community welfare. She urged residents to support the council's efforts, noting that the event centre would not only provide a modern venue for social gatherings but also spur economic activities in the area.

In his address, Dr. Obi Ezenyili highlighted that the Oko Event Centre aligns with Governor Oborevwori’s MORE agenda and fulfills a long-standing demand for a standard facility for community events. He emphasized that the project would reduce the need for residents to travel to Asaba for such gatherings, enhancing convenience and boosting local businesses.

The council chairman also formally launched the empowerment programme aimed at fostering inclusivity and reducing youth restiveness. Beneficiaries included Persons with Disabilities, artisans, religious organizations, youth leaders, traditional rulers, and representatives of various ethnic groups within Oshimili South.

Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, who represents Oshimili South in the Delta State House of Assembly, and Chief Victor Obi, the Odua of Oko Amakom, lauded the Governor and his administration for prioritizing development in the area. They also advocated for additional initiatives, including the establishment of a secondary school in Oko Amakom.

The commissioning of the Oko Event Centre and the launch of the empowerment programme were seen as critical steps in fulfilling the administration’s commitment to developmental governance. These projects underscore the council’s resolve to deliver tangible democratic dividends to the people of Oshimili South.

With the successful inauguration, the event centre is poised to become a hub for economic and social activities, further cementing the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for its citizens.
