Wife of the Delta State Governor and Founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has awarded scholarships to visually impaired students and donated assistive devices and food items to members of the blind community during the foundation’s outreach tagged “Mission to the Visually Impaired”, held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Asaba.

Speaking at the event, Deaconess Oborevwori said the initiative was designed to promote inclusivity and compassion through education and empowerment. She explained that the You Matter Charity Foundation has consistently supported children with autism, special needs, and visual impairment, providing educational and vocational tools to help them learn and thrive.

“The visually impaired are not lesser members of society. They are intelligent, courageous, and capable of greatness. Today, we are here to change the narrative and show that they matter,” she said, urging parents and families not to lose faith in their children’s potential.

The First Lady presented several assistive devices, including laptops with screen readers, Braille papers, talking calculators, tactile learning kits, and digital audio recorders, among others, to aid the independence and education of beneficiaries. She also distributed 120 bags of rice, 100 tubers of yams, garri, palm oil, noodles, salt, and other provisions to support their households.

She also awarded full scholarships to four visually impaired university students, covering their tuition and educational materials until graduation. “Education is a tool of empowerment and equality. Though your physical sight may be limited, your vision of hope brings light to the world,” she encouraged.

Director General of the Foundation, Mrs. Lawrentta Ogbedo, described the outreach as a reaffirmation of the foundation’s commitment to inclusivity and social justice, saying: “Food symbolises love and care, and today we reaffirm that the visually impaired are seen, valued, and loved.”

Expressing appreciation on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Angela Ekure, a visually impaired broadcaster with the Delta State Broadcasting Service, thanked the governor’s wife for her compassion and life-changing support, describing the scholarships and donations as “a first-of-its-kind gesture that restores hope and dignity.”
