Delta approves ₦400bn infrastructure push, plans construction of 25 Police Divisional HQs

The Delta State Government has approved infrastructure projects worth over ₦400 billion, covering road construction, rehabilitation, and key public facilities across the state, in a major push to improve transportation, security, and economic development.

The approvals were granted during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the projects cut across several local government areas, including Warri South, Warri South-West, Udu, Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Ethiope East, Ethiope West, Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Ika North-East, Ika South, Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East, Bomadi, Burutu, Isoko North, and Isoko South.

On security, Aniagwu disclosed that the council approved the construction of a Nigeria Police Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base as well as 25 Police Divisional Headquarters across the state’s local government areas in anticipation of the Federal Government’s proposed policy on state policing.

He said the approvals reflect the administration’s commitment to strengthening security architecture while expanding infrastructure development across Delta State.

Among the key road projects approved is the rehabilitation of the Aghalokpe–SPDC–Adagbrassa–Aragba Road and adjoining streets in Okpe Local Government Area, as well as the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of Okotomewo/Oviri Court/Adeje Road within the same council.

In the state capital Asaba, projects approved include the reconstruction of failed sections of major roads, the cutting of the hill at Asaba International Airport to improve safety and accessibility, and the construction of several new roads, including Asagba Palace Road, GBC Murphy Avenue, Chris Abudeyi Street, and Ogbeeshi Monochie Street.

For the Warri axis, the council approved projects such as the reconstruction of Warri Internal Ring Road Phase Two, rehabilitation of the first three kilometres of the Trans-Warri Ode-Itsekiri Road, construction of Orient Drive off the NPA Expressway, rehabilitation of Enerhen Police Station Road and Aladja Avenue Road, resurfacing of River Road in Ekpan, and the construction of Old Okoko Road from **Koko Garage to the Lagos Expressway.

In Udu Local Government Area, projects include the rehabilitation of the Otu-Jeremi/Udu Road from the Warri–Port Harcourt Expressway at ECN Junction to the DSC Expressway, erosion control works along the Ekakpamre/Ekrokpe–Usiefrun/Orhuwhorun roads, and road construction within Udu Harbour Market.

Other major projects were approved in the Ughelli, Ethiope, Ika, Ndokwa, and Isoko axes, including reconstruction of the Eku–Osubi Road Phase Two, sections of the Jesse–Boboroko Road, construction of Asuen Road in Owa-Ekei, Idumuigwe Road in Akumazi, and the Oteri–Igbide–Emede Road.

In the riverine areas, the government approved the construction of Macaulay and Mitubiri Roads in Bomadi, internal roads in Odimodi and Ogulagha communities in Burutu Local Government Area, and the Torugbene–Ojobo Road with a spur into Ojobo Town.

Aniagwu added that the council also approved several institutional development projects, including the construction of male and female hostels in state-owned universities, renovation of magistrate courts and customary courts, and the construction of five judges’ quarters in Osubi as well as prototype judges’ quarters with auxiliary facilities in Asaba.

The council also approved the completion of the Senate/Administrative Building at Delta State University, Abraka, to enhance administrative operations at the institution.

The commissioner, who briefed journalists alongside the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), Commissioner for Higher Education Nyerhovwo Tonukari, Commissioner for Housing Godknows Angele, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor Festus Ahon, and Technical Assistant to the Governor Bob Nakpodia, said the approvals demonstrate the administration’s resolve to strengthen institutions, improve security, and deliver modern infrastructure to communities across the state.
