The Delta State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has passed a unanimous vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing them as the party’s sole presidential and governorship candidates for the 2027 elections.
The endorsement, reached at the State Executive Committee meeting held on Wednesday at the APC Secretariat in Asaba, was described as a “historic resolution” that underscores the party’s unity and commitment to consolidating its strength ahead of the next polls.
State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, who presided over the meeting attended by SEC members and local government chairmen from across the 25 LGAs, urged party leaders to remain disciplined and united under Oborevwori’s leadership, stressing that reconciliation, loyalty, and inclusion were crucial for APC’s victory in Delta.
According to the statement issued on the outcome of the meeting by the party's State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq, the motion for the endorsement was moved by Chief Ubu Jiminyevwe Digbame, the State Assistant Auditor, and seconded by Pastor Norbert Sochukwudinma, Chairman of Aniocha South LGA, drawing a thunderous ovation from members.
The statement reads: "The State Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Delta State, convened its strategic State Executive Committee meeting today, the 27th August 2025, at the State Secretariat of the Party in Asaba under the leadership of the State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie. The meeting, which had in attendance members of the State Executive Committee and the local government chairmen of the Party from across the 25 Local Government Areas of the state, deliberated extensively on issues of unity, discipline, empowerment and the future political direction of the Party in Delta State.
"In his welcome address, Elder Sobotie charged members of the SEC to remain steadfast, disciplined and united in the collective task of building a stronger APC in Delta State under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori. He emphasised that only through harmony, loyalty, and commitment to the Party can the APC consolidate its strength and emerge victorious in the forthcoming general elections. "The Chairman also reminded members that the Party’s fortunes in Delta State are directly tied to its internal cohesion, and as such, he called for reconciliation, tolerance, and inclusion at every level of leadership, particularly in the 25 Local Government Areas. "Discussions during the meeting centred on the state of affairs of the Party across the LGAs, with speakers unanimously calling for urgent and decisive steps to heal existing divisions, energise the grassroots, and reposition the Party as a dominant political force in the state. "Furthermore, the State Chairman briefed the house on the forthcoming empowerment programme scheduled for next month, which is aimed at bringing succour and tangible benefits to members of the Party and their communities. He assured that the programme will not only consolidate the Party’s goodwill but also demonstrate the APC’s commitment to the welfare and progress of the people. "His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori is the sole governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State for the 2027 general elections. His endorsement was predicated on his proven record of service, inclusive leadership style and capacity to deliver good governance to the people of Delta State under the M.O.R.E. Agenda.
