Nigeria's security forces are not enemies of the nation, Defense Minister General Christopher Musa said on Friday. Speaking on Channels Television's 'The Platform,' he insisted that both civilians and military personnel are victims of insecurity.
Musa called on Nigerians to work hand-in-hand with government institutions to tackle the crisis. Success against terrorism requires cooperation between citizens and state agencies, he noted.
During his 19 months commanding Operation Hadin Kai, the retired general witnessed unimaginable suffering. He spoke of meeting families who lost loved ones in combat operations.
Some soldiers returned home with amputated limbs after IED attacks on military vehicles. These images, Musa said, haunt commanders who must explain casualties to grieving families.
"We are all victims," he emphasized in his appearance. The defense chief urged respect for those sacrificing their lives daily.
Soldiers deserve full support from the nation, Musa argued. Citizens must provide whatever assistance keeps troops motivated and effective.
Combined citizen engagement and military commitment can achieve much more, he asserted. Musa expressed confidence that this partnership will yield results against insurgency.
His remarks highlighted the human cost of Nigeria's ongoing security challenges. The minister's appeal underscores the need for national unity in combating terrorism.
