Court remands Emefiele in Kuje prison pending ruling on bail

Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, has commanded that the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, be detained in Kuje prison until the resolution of his request for bail.

Emefiele will stay in prison until November 22, when the court will give a ruling on his bail motion.

His lead counsel, Mathew Burkaa, SAN, filed the application for bail, which Rotimi Oyedepo strongly resisted on behalf of the Federal Government.

After hearing arguments for and against the application, Justice Muazu said a bench ruling could not be given in view of the multitude of authorities quoted by the two parties.

The judge said he needed a little time to examine the authorities and go through the exhibits provided by Emefiele to back up his request for bail.
