Fatal Gas Tanker Explosion in Ogun: One Dead, Two Injured on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

One person dead, while two others sustained injuries in a tragic gas tanker explosion that occurred at Ita-Oshin, on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.
The incident took place on Saturday at 4.10 pm, as confirmed by Florence Okpe, the spokesperson of the Ogun command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The accident involved six male adults and five vehicles, including two Nissan cars with registration numbers AAN 544 YC, LSD 993 CY, a Sino tanker marked T23771 LA, a Micra marked GDB 841 XR, and a Honda CRV without registration number.
According to the FRSC spokesperson, the tanker suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The truck then crashed into the road barricade and burst into flames, resulting in a large fire that engulfed some vehicles and shops in the vicinity.
Emergency services were promptly called to the scene, and the fire was eventually brought under control.
The deceased victim was taken to the State General Hospital morgue in Abeokuta, while the injured victims were taken away by their families.
FRSC operatives have remained on the scene to manage the traffic situation and ensure the safety of other road users.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining vehicles and ensuring road safety measures are in place to prevent such tragic events from occurring.
