A Federal High Court in Kano has ruled to nullify the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. The court's decision also nullifies all actions taken following the controversial reinstatement.
Presiding Judge Justice Abdullahi Liman declared that every step taken by the government in relation to Sanusi's reinstatement is nullified and becomes null and invalid.
However, this ruling does not affect the validity of the repealed Emirate Law.
Justice Liman stated that he is convinced the respondents were aware of the court order to maintain the status quo pending the hearing and determination of the motions on notice.
He emphasized that it is a serious matter for anyone to flout the orders of the court and go unpunished.
The judge noted that the catastrophic situation could have been averted if the respondents had complied with the court order, which would have allowed them to carry out their assignments.
He criticized the respondents for acting according to their whims and caprices, landing them in a serious mess.
