COAS Emphasizes Role of Intelligence Gathering in Tackling Insecurity

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has reiterated the importance of the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps (NAIC) in the fight against insurgency and other criminal activities.

The COAS emphasized the role of adept intelligence gathering through the NAIC in tackling insecurity in the country.

During the inauguration of facilities at the NAIC Headquarters in Asokoro, Abuja, the COAS commended the officers and soldiers of the corps for their invaluable service to the army and the nation at large.

He urged them to redouble their efforts in the discharge of their duties and assured the corps that he would provide the necessary equipment, training, and technology to enhance its effectiveness in gathering, analyzing, and disseminating the requisite intelligence.

Maj.-Gen. Thompson Ugiagbe, the Chief of Military Intelligence (Army), highlighted the need for renovation of the Headquarters NAIC office complex, which prompted the remodelling initiative.

He also mentioned the significance of the Gatekeepers Statue, a common feature of intelligence services worldwide, as a symbol of the corps’ commitment to honoring the past, inspiring the present, and securing the future through vigilant and dedicated intelligence efforts.

The COAS emphasized that a well-equipped and proficient NAIC is essential for maintaining a safer and more secure Nigeria.

By providing the NAIC with robust support to enable intelligence-driven operations, the Nigerian Army will effectively surmount the security challenges bedevilling the country.

The role of the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps is crucial in gathering, analyzing, and disseminating the intelligence necessary to tackle the security challenges in Nigeria.

With the continued support of the COAS and the commitment of its officers and soldiers, the NAIC is poised to play a vital role in maintaining a safer and more secure Nigeria.
