Barkley, 61, has been a fixture on TNT Sports' NBA coverage since retiring from professional basketball in 2000. His wit and expertise have endeared him to fans and made him a beloved figure in the sports broadcasting world.
The announcement comes amid ongoing talks between the NBA and various media companies, including Warner Bros. Discovery (TNT Sports' parent company), Disney, Amazon, and NBC, regarding the league's next media rights deal.
The current agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery is set to expire after the 2024-25 season.
"I've talked to all the other networks, but I ain't going nowhere other than TNT," Barkley said on NBA TV. "But I have made the decision myself, no matter what happens, next year is going to be my last year on television."
Barkley made the announcement during a postgame show following Game 4 of the NBA Finals, in which the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Boston Celtics 122-84 to keep the series alive at 3-1.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has stated that talks regarding the league's next media rights deal are ongoing, with no official announcements made yet.
