CAC Urges Social Media Content Creators to Register, Comply with CAMA 2020

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has recently announced that social media content creators, including Instagram and TikTok users with large followings, must now register their businesses with the commission.

This move comes in accordance with the Company and Allied Matters Act 2020 (CAMA 2020) and is aimed at ensuring that content creators comply with the law and its provisions.

During a recent courtesy visit by the Managing Director of Opay, Dauda Gotring, and his team in Abuja, the CAC’s Registrar General, Hussaini Magaji, emphasized the importance of compliance with the CAMA 2020.

He stated that content creators on the internet who have a large number of followers and are making money from their content must register their businesses with the commission.

The CAC is determined to enforce the provisions of the law and its penalties, as part of its efforts to ensure that all businesses, big or small, comply with the regulations.

This move also coincides with the Federal Inland Revenue Services’ (FIRS) alleged plans to onboard media content creators and influencers into its tax system.

Social media content creators are now required to register their businesses with the CAC in order to comply with the provisions of the CAMA 2020.

This will ensure that they are operating within the legal framework and are contributing their fair share to the economy.
