A Makurdi Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a businessman, Nnamdi Daniel, for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adah Jack, who did not take the defendant’s plea, ordered that the case file should be sent to the state director of public prosecutions for advice.

Jack ordered that the defendant should be kept at the Makurdi Correctional Centre pending the advice.

She adjourned the case until Aug. 2 for mention.

The defendant, who resides at No.12, Orano St. Zaki-Biam, is facing a count charge of child defilement.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Regina Ishaya, told the court that the case was reported at the Ukum Police Station on June 18, by Mr Tavershima Aga of Austoma Filling Station, Zaki-Biam.

Ishaya said that the defendant had sexual intercourse with the underage.

She said that the girl told her uncle, Aga, of the incident.

She urged the court to adjourn the case to enable the police to conclude investigation into the case.

Ishaya said that the offence contravened Section 284 of the Penal Code of Benue State, 2004.
