Gunmen believed to be from Boko Haram or ISWAP torched two schools in Kautikari village on Saturday evening. The attack occurred in Chibok local government area of Borno State.
Security officials say the militants stormed the community around 7pm. They set fires at both the primary and secondary school buildings.
No deaths were reported in the incident. Villagers fled into nearby bushes to escape the attackers.
This latest assault comes weeks after gunmen abducted pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba. Those students remain missing.
A village resident expressed shock at the severity of the latest attack. He noted that previous raids didn't target school facilities or other property.
"Why would they burn down the schools this time?" the man asked. "It's different from what happened before."
Kautikari has faced multiple militant assaults over recent months. The community remains vulnerable to further violence.
Attempts to reach Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso proved unsuccessful. His phone lines weren't available for comment on the incident.
