Bauchi State Police Command has kicked off a major enforcement operation targeting unregistered vehicles and fake number plates across the state. Mobile courts have been deployed to fast-track prosecution of offenders caught in the dragnet.

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu ordered the crackdown, which commenced on Wednesday. Police spokesman SP Nafiu Habib confirmed the initiative in a statement released to journalists.

Five mobile courts are stationed at area command headquarters throughout Bauchi. Additional courts have been positioned at key locations within Bauchi metropolis to handle cases.

Officers will target vehicles without proper registration documents. Vehicles with covered, obscured, or fake number plates also face seizure.

Bauchi Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu explained the reasoning behind the operation. "Unregistered and unidentifiable vehicles remain a major security risk," he said during briefings with reporters.

According to him, criminals frequently use untraceable vehicles for kidnapping and armed robbery. "This enforcement is not aimed at harassing motorists, but at protecting lives and property," the commissioner added.

Violators face vehicle impoundment and immediate prosecution before mobile courts. Convicted offenders will pay fines and face other penalties under Nigeria's motor vehicle registration laws.

CP Aliyu urged all vehicle owners to regularise their documents without delay. Drivers must ensure number plates are properly displayed and not covered or altered in any way.

Police authorities are calling on residents to support the enforcement exercise. Officials stressed the operation will continue indefinitely with full commitment from all personnel involved.

Command officials described the measure as part of wider security efforts statewide. They said eliminating untraceable vehicles would help create a safer environment for Bauchi residents.
