Kano's Hisbah Board arrested 16 people this week. Six men and 10 women were picked up during enforcement operations across the state.
Mujahiddeen Aminuddeen, the board's Deputy Commander-General, confirmed the detentions on Thursday. He disclosed that raids targeted El-Kanemy Suite, areas along Yahaya Gusau Road, and locations near BUK Road.
Officers also swept through Danbare and Layin Shisha neighbourhoods as part of routine crackdowns. All suspects were apprehended for alleged violations of the board's moral standards.
Aminuddeen noted that those arrested were first-time offenders facing counselling sessions. "We are counselling them and also inviting their relatives," he told reporters.
According to him, detainees will sign undertakings after counselling to avoid repeating such conduct. Family members are being invited to participate in the rehabilitation process.
Hisbah officials plan continued monitoring of the suspects going forward. The board aims to guide them toward more responsible behaviour, he added.
Kano's Hisbah Board regularly conducts such operations throughout the state. Its mandate involves enforcing Sharia-related regulations and maintaining public morality standards.
