Katsina — Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is optimistic that the upcoming party congresses will settle the ongoing internal disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State.
Abubakar made this statement while fielding questions from newsmen on Saturday in Katsina, where he had visited to offer his condolences to various dignitaries.
During his visit, Atiku paid a visit to the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir-Usman, to offer his condolences for the passing of his son, Abdullah Abdulmumini.
He also extended his condolences to the family of the late Alhaji Lawal Kaita, former Governor of the defunct Kaduna State, following the passing of his widow, Hajiya Yelwa Lawal-Kaita.
Furthermore, Abubakar visited former President Muhammadu Buhari at his country home in Daura.
He then extended his condolences to the family of the late Alhaji Sade, who was the father of Lawal Dade, the Managing Director of NNPC Trading Limited.
While in Daura, Abubakar also met with the Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouq, to express his sympathies over Sade's demise.
Concerning the internal crises that have split the PDP in Katsina State into two factions, Abubakar declared, "There will be congresses soon, and people will choose their party leaders."
This statement comes in the wake of allegations by a group called 'PDP major stakeholders' that they were denied the opportunity to purchase congress forms by the state caretaker committee.
The state caretaker committee has remained silent on the issue, despite multiple attempts to obtain a response. The forthcoming congresses are expected to provide an opportunity for party members to elect their preferred leaders, potentially resolving the ongoing internal disputes.
