Appeal court did not dismiss Gov Oborevwori -Delta Govt

The Delta State Government has debunked reports that the Court of Appeal in Abuja has nullified the election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and declared the Labour Party candidate, Mr. Ken Pela, as the winner of the 2023 governorship poll in the state.

The government described the reports as fake news and a concoction of the Labour Party and its followers, who are trying to mislead the public and cause confusion in the state.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, on Thursday, the government said that the appellate court did not overturn the election of Governor Oborevwori but only ordered the tribunal to hear the case filed by Mr. Pela, who had earlier been dismissed for lack of merit.

Ahon said that the governor remains the validly elected and sworn-in governor of Delta State and that he is focused on delivering dividends of democracy to the people of the state. He said that the governor will not be distracted by the rumour mills and their sponsors.

He also said that the government has confidence in the judiciary and believes that justice will prevail at the end of the day. He urged Deltans to disregard the fake news and continue to support Governor Oborevwori in his quest to transform Delta State.
