By Akpos Oghenetega,
As the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries draw nearer, the Delta Central Elders and Leaders Consultative Council (DCELCC) has unanimously endorsed Olorogun O'tega Emerhor as the sole candidate for the Delta Central Senatorial seat.
The council said its decision was based on Emerhor’s longstanding sacrifices and contributions to the growth of the APC, particularly since the party’s formation in Delta State. Members also noted that his strong network and influence at the federal level position him as the most suitable candidate to effectively represent the district and collaborate with Sheriff Oborevwori in attracting federal presence to the region.
The endorsement was announced on Wednesday at a meeting held at the residence of the council’s chairman, Sylvester Kowho, in Effurun GRA, Uvwie Local Government Area. Speaking at the gathering, Kowho said the decision followed a thorough assessment of all aspirants, describing Emerhor as a loyal and patriotic party leader who has consistently invested in the party’s growth.
Moving the motion, Council Spokesman, Chief Thomas Akpodiete, described Emerhor as the founding pillar of the APC in Delta State, noting that he sustained the party financially even while out of government. The motion was seconded by Chief (Hon.) Silver Savbede and subsequently adopted through a unanimous voice vote.
Kowho urged members of the council to return to their respective local governments, wards, and units to mobilise grassroots support for Emerhor ahead of the primaries, which he said could be decided through consensus or direct voting.
The meeting attracted a wide array of APC elders and leaders from the eight local government areas of Delta Central, reflecting a strong show of unity and consensus within the party’s leadership in the district ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Top elders who attended are Sir (Prince) Benson Mebitaghan, Chief Thomas Akpodiete, Chief Silver Savbede, Col. Abeke (Rtd), Okakuro (Capt) Clifford Ikpikpini, Olorogun John Onojeharho and other leaders of the Council.
