APC chieftain backs Awhinawhi’s return to reps, cites rotation principle

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Chief William Alu, has called for the return of former lawmaker, Chief Solomon Awhinawhi, to the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in an interview with journalists, Alu anchored his position on the principle of equity and rotational representation within the Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency. He noted that during Awhinawhi’s two-term tenure, the seat was zoned to Ughelli North, after which it moved to Udu, where another legislator also served two terms, and is currently occupied by a representative from Ughelli South.

Given this pattern, Alu argued that fairness demands a return of the seat to Ughelli North in 2027, positioning Awhinawhi as a leading contender from the area.

He described the former lawmaker as experienced and widely accepted, stating that his candidacy would boost the APC’s chances of retaining the seat. “Awhinawhi has been tested, proven, and trusted. He remains a strong candidate,” he said, urging him to formally declare his interest.

Alu added that his call reflects sentiments among stakeholders across the constituency, warning that failure to present a formidable candidate could hand opposition parties an advantage in the forthcoming elections.
