The All Progressives Congress (APC) has pointed fingers at Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of being the mastermind behind the ongoing political turmoil in the oil-rich state.
The ruling party has dismissed allegations made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the APC is plotting to seize control of the state, labeling these claims as pure imagination.
In a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party criticized Governor Fubara for his alleged disregard for the rule of law and democratic institutions since assuming office.
The APC accused the governor of unconstitutionally constituting a three-member Assembly, which they claim is an unprecedented display of autocratic arrogance.
The political fireworks between the APC and PDP were ignited following a call by Rivers APC Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tony Okocha, for the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the state due to the presence of a full-blown war.
In response, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, accused the APC of planning to provoke a crisis in Rivers State.
However, Morka emphasized that the alleged plot to hijack control of the state exists only in the PDP's imagination. He further stated that Governor Fubara is the one responsible for the current crisis, accusing him of spending public funds without lawful appropriations by a duly constituted legislature and undermining the will of the people.
The APC publicist also criticized the governor for failing to conduct local government elections, instead allowing the tenure of the incumbent elected local government officials to expire and attempting to arbitrarily impose illegal caretaker committees.
In conclusion, the APC has called on Governor Fubara to adhere to the basic tenets of democratic and constitutional governance for the benefit of the people of Rivers State.
