Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North) has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the creation of Anioma State, expressing optimism that the long-standing demand is closer than ever to becoming a reality.

Speaking on the renewed national conversation about state creation, Nwoko revealed that all constitutional requirements for Anioma State have been met and that a referendum is expected within the coming months.

“Nobody is opposing the creation of Anioma State. I don’t know any Anioma man or woman who is against it,” he declared, stressing that the people of Anioma are united and fully supportive of the cause.

Highlighting the region’s economic strength, the senator noted that Anioma produces significant oil and gas resources, contributes roughly 40 percent of Delta State’s federal allocation, and possesses vast agricultural and human potential. “Anioma is more than ready to be self-sufficient. We have the natural and human resources to thrive independently,” he said.

Nwoko explained that at the recent retreat of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Constitutional Review in Lagos, it was agreed that one additional state should be created for the South East, a move that aligns perfectly with the Anioma agenda.

He disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged support for the initiative once the National Assembly concludes the legislative process. “The President assured me he would back it as soon as we complete our part,” Nwoko confirmed.

Describing Anioma State as a project of equity, inclusion, and peace, he concluded: “The creation of Anioma State will bring balance to the federation and lasting peace to the South East.”
