A Plateau State High Court in Jos has scheduled July 1 and 2, 2026, for the main trial hearing in the Angwan Rukuba killing case. The deadly attack on the Jos North community left 23 people dead and injured many others.
Five suspects face prosecution over the incident. Friday's court proceedings dealt with pre-trial matters and case management discussions before the substantive hearing begins.
Prosecutors charged the defendants with criminal conspiracy, terrorism, culpable homicide, illegal firearms possession, and unlicensed arms dealing. All five pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Barrister Philemon Dafi, the state's Attorney General, supervised the prosecution team from the Plateau State Ministry of Justice. His team told the court that all required documents had been filed and shared with the defence.
The prosecution asked Justice Gidelia Fomyon to accept their submissions and issue the required case management report. Fomyon obliged and ordered the report for May 26, 2026.
Defence counsel confirmed they'd followed all court orders and filed their responses accordingly. They assured the judge their clients would be prepared to present their defence at trial.
Justice Fomyon ruled that the case management process had been properly completed under the law. She adjourned proceedings to May 26 for the court's official report on case management.
The judge then formally set July 1 and 2, 2026, for the definite hearing and witness testimonies. This marks a critical step toward resolving the high-profile case.
