Anambra State has handed out contracts valued at over N1 billion for flood management and hospital upgrades. Law Mefor, the Information Commissioner, made this known Tuesday in Awka.

Mefor spoke after the State Executive Council wrapped up its meeting. He outlined the specific contract awards in detail.

Lebtech Construction Ltd won N801.67 million to build a floodwater diversion channel. The project sits at Ezioko in Oko-Nanka, within Orumba North Local Government Area.

Calyzid Ventures landed N279.49 million for medical equipment at General Hospital, Oroma Etiti. The contract covers supply and installation of new machinery and accessories.

Ozoh United Ventures Nig. Ltd secured N92.69 million for construction work at Nwafor Orizu College of Education in Nsugbe.

The project involves general external works and landscaping across the campus.

Beyond construction, the state plans fresh legislation targeting scrap dealers. According to Mefor, criminals posing as scrap speculators have been vandalizing public and private property.

A new law will require licensing for all scrap dealers in the state. Those dealing in scrapped vehicles won't escape the requirement either.

Mefor noted the measure aims to protect state assets. "The legislation follows increasing reported cases of vandalism and theft of public properties," he said.

Council also made another key decision on contracts going forward. All bidders must now show proof of tax compliance before participating in contract awards.

State officials say this move benefits Anambra's revenue stream. Taxes paid by prospective contractors will flow into government coffers.
