The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a suspected kidnapper and the rescue of a victim in a gun battle at Obosi in the Idemili North Local Government Area of the state. The incident occurred on Saturday night, when police operatives on anti-crime patrol were alerted by residents about a kidnapping incident in the area.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police operatives followed the direction given by the residents and traced the kidnappers to an uncompleted building surrounded by bushes in Umuota Village, Obosi. He said that a fierce exchange of gunfire ensued between the police and the kidnappers, resulting in the death of one of the suspects and the escape of others with bullet wounds.

The police spokesperson said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commended the team for its gallantry and directed that the suspects at large be declared wanted and hunted down. He assured the people of Obosi and Anambra State citizens and residents that the police command would not relent in its onslaught against crime until it was brought to the barest minimum in the state.

He said that anyone who provides useful information that leads to the arrest of the fleeing suspects would be rewarded accordingly.
