Amnesty International has demanded a full probe into the killing of an Islamic schoolteacher in Kaduna State. The rights group issued its call following the incident on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Mararaba Jos along the Kaduna-Zaria highway.

According to the organization, police officers allegedly handed the teacher over to an angry mob. That mob subsequently killed her and burned her body, Amnesty International stated.

The rights group wants police authorities to investigate thoroughly. They're also demanding clarity on whether any officers took part in the alleged handover.

"Authorities must ensure that all those responsible for this unlawful killing are identified and brought to justice," Amnesty International said in its statement. Officials expressed deep concern over rising mob violence fueled by suspicion and unverified claims.

Such acts are undermining Nigeria's rule of law and putting innocent lives at risk, the organization warned. Amnesty International pointed out that weak prosecution of mob killings has bred impunity across communities.

This culture of impunity encourages more vigilante violence, according to the group. A transparent investigation would help restore public trust in the justice system, Amnesty International added.

Prosecution of those found guilty would also deter similar incidents going forward, the organization noted. Justice, it stressed, must be served swiftly and transparently.
