Airtel Telesonic, the wholesale arm of Airtel Africa, has taken a significant step towards enhancing connectivity across the African continent with the activation of the 2Africa Submarine Cable System.
This milestone connects Kenya, Tanzania, and South Africa, marking the initial phase of a broader initiative to deliver faster and more resilient internet services.
The 2Africa Cable System, one of the largest subsea projects globally, is designed to interconnect Africa, Europe, and Asia, supporting digital transformation across the continent.
Airtel Telesonic achieved this achievement in partnership with Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), an industry leader in optical submarine networks.
P D Sarma, CEO of Airtel Telesonic, expressed enthusiasm about the milestone, stating, "The activation of the 2Africa submarine cable is a monumental step in our mission to bridge the digital divide in Africa."
ASN's Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Paul Gabla, also shared his excitement, highlighting the partnership's dedication to delivering world-class SLTE technological solutions.
In addition to the 2Africa Cable System activation, Airtel has announced a partnership with Network International as its payment processor.
This collaboration is set to drive Airtel's continuous provision of cutting-edge mobile services across the continent and beyond, enabling the company to navigate the dynamic landscape of digital finance and deliver unparalleled value to its users and stakeholders.
With Network International's expertise spanning 50 countries, including 40 in Africa, serving over 200 financial institutions and facilitating more than 1.6 billion transactions, the partnership will further strengthen Airtel's position in the digital finance sector.
