Afghan forces seize 94 pieces of weapons in eastern region

Afghan security forces have seized 94 pieces of different kinds of weapons in the eastern region of the war-torn country.

This was according to a statement from the Ministry for National Defense released on Wednesday.

During the search operations which have covered the eastern region including Nangarhar and Khost provinces over the past couple of weeks, the security forces have found different types of weapons.

”They included several stocks of AKM, AK-47 and the U.S.-made M16 assault rifles, along with thousands of bullets,” the statement added.

The statement didn’t say if anyone has been arrested.

Similarly, the Afghan security forces have seized weapon caches including mortars, bullets, explosive devices and mines in the northern Sari Pul province last week.

The Afghan caretaker government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from anyone living outside security organs.

According to officials, the establishment has collected thousands of pieces of light and heavy weapons including tanks and armoured vehicles over the past 18 months.
