Opposition lawmakers have attacked President Tinubu's administration over economic insensitivity. They're angry at remarks made by the President's spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
Bolaji Abdullahi, the African Democratic Congress national publicity secretary, issued the rebuke on Wednesday. He called Onanuga's comments deeply troubling and out of touch.
Earlier that day, Onanuga claimed he hadn't witnessed the hunger and hardship Nigerians keep reporting. The statement sparked immediate backlash from the opposition party.
According to the ADC, such remarks reveal dangerous detachment from reality. Over 80 percent of Nigerians are struggling to feed families, pay school fees, and keep businesses running.
The party noted that food prices have skyrocketed across the nation. Transportation costs are rising while incomes shrink and savings disappear.
"When a senior presidential spokesman denies this crisis exists, it's shocking," party officials told reporters. They described the attitude as an admission the government has lost its way.
Abdullahi argued that leadership should prioritize citizen welfare above all else. Infrastructure projects alone cannot measure a government's success, he insisted.
"Nigerians cannot eat roads," the statement declared bluntly. Government must create conditions where ordinary people can actually survive and prosper.
ADC officials believe Tinubu's economic policies have worsened the cost-of-living crisis. They're demanding urgent policy changes to address mounting public suffering.
