The Adamawa State House of Assembly has passed legislation designed to clarify the rights and duties of both landlords and tenants in the state. The Tenancy and Recovery of Premises Bill creates a legal framework to settle disputes and shield both parties from exploitation.

Misa Musa, the member representing Ganye Constituency and chairman of the Committee on Housing and Urban Development, presented the report that led to the bill's passage. The legislation establishes clear rules governing tenancy agreements, landlord-tenant relationships, and how property can be recovered.

The bill aims to reduce conflicts between landlords and tenants by spelling out their respective obligations and rights. It also sets up mechanisms for resolving disagreements before they escalate into costly legal battles.

Speaker Bathiya Wesley ordered the Clerk of the House to prepare a final version of the bill for submission to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri. The governor is expected to review the document and give his assent to make it law.

Officials believe the new law will bring clarity to a sector that has long been marked by disputes over deposits, rent payments, and evictions. The framework should protect vulnerable tenants while ensuring landlords can enforce legitimate claims on their properties.
