Abiala community threatens to protest against Elcrest E&P over failed agreement

Leadership of the Abiala II community in Ikokodia-gbene in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State has threatened to stage a protest against the management of Elcrest E&P Nigeria Limited for not fulfilling their side of the agreement reached with the community.

 

The community leaders, in a letter addressed to the Managing Director of Elcrest E&P Nigeria Limited, accused the firm management of deceit over its failure to pay the community what is accure from its rigs operation in the community in the past 8 months.

 

The Abiala II community leaders in the letter dated September 3rd signed by the Community Chairman, Mr. Thompson Abanara, the Secretary, Mr. President Idenakeme and PRO, Mr. Clement Yebor, they threatened to take necessary action to if Elcrest E&P Nigeria Limited fails to the Honourable paths.

 

The letter titled: LETTER EMBARKING ON A PEACEFUL PROTEST BY ABIALA II COMMUNITY ON ELCREST E&P NIGERIA LIMITED Over The Completion OF THE RIG OPERATION AND LEAVING OUR AREA WITHOUT BENEFITS, AWARDING CONTRACTS AND PAYMENT ACCRUE TO THE COMMUNITY IN ІКРОВА ОКНА LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF EDO STATE," reads in parts:

 

"We write to inform you that we are about to embark on a peaceful protest over the Elcrest E & P Nigeria Limited, Leaving our entire community on the completion of the RIG operation without any benefits of awarding contracts and payment accrue to the Abiala II community for over eight (8) months of operation by Elcrest E&P Nigeria Limited.

 

"This duplicitous and Criminal Offence is against the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) Law.

 

"Therefore, we are calling on you to put your company management in check to settle Abiala II Community on their payments and other benefits before the RIG leaves the community peacefully.

 

"However, without your compliance, we will take drastic and prerogative action according to the constitutional rights that we have to protest," they added.
