Abia Community Urges NDDC to Complete Abandoned Projects in Owo Ala Asa

The community of Owo Ala Asa in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State has voiced their concerns over the numerous abandoned projects initiated by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in their area.
These projects, including the Owo Ala water project and various road and electricity projects, were initially awarded by UNPADEC and later inherited by the NDDC.
The community has expressed their frustration over the lack of progress on these projects, which they believe has led to significant hardship, particularly in an area known for its agricultural production.
During a visit to the representative of Abia State in the Niger Delta Development Commission board, Eruba Dimgba, community members, led by Chief Han Okpokiri, called on Dimgba to use his position and influence to ensure the completion of these projects.
They emphasized the importance of these projects in improving the living conditions and overall development of the Owo Ala community.
In response, Dimgba acknowledged the concerns raised by the community and assured them that the new NDDC board is committed to fulfilling the commission’s mandate.
He highlighted the presence of numerous abandoned NDDC projects across the state, including road, water, school, and hospital projects.
Dimgba emphasized that the management’s strategy is to prioritize the completion of existing projects in Abia and the broader South-East region, rather than initiating new contracts.
This development comes at a time when the NDDC is under increased scrutiny for its handling of development projects in the Niger Delta region.
The community’s call for action underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in the delivery of public infrastructure projects.
As the NDDC board works towards addressing the concerns of the Owo Ala community, it is hoped that this will set a positive precedent for the completion of other abandoned projects in the region, ultimately improving the quality of life for residents in the Niger Delta.
