By Leonard Okachie

No fewer than 1,865 corps members
deployed in Abia for the 2023 Batch A,  Stream II  Orientation Course, passed out of the mandatory three-week training programme on Tuesday.

The number, comprising 955 males and 900 females, took part in the programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Umunna in Bende Local Government Area.

Declaring the orientation closed, the NYSC Director-General, Brig.- Gen. Yushau Ahmed, commended the corps members for their patriotic zeal shown through their active participation in camp activities.

Ahmed, represented by Abia NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Ufuoma Dick-Iruenabere, admonished them to be diligent in the performance of their duties and be guided by the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-Laws.

He further urged them to avoid using the social media for ethnic jingoism, rumour peddling and promotion of mutual hatred.

He said: “My dear corps members, as you proceed to your locations of primary assignment, I urge you to be security conscious at all times.

“Steer clear of acts that can put you in harm’s way, such as staying out late, attending night parties, visitation of dangerous places, and acceptance of free car rides from strangers,” Ahmed said.
