Abdullahi assumes command of Depot Nigeria Army

Gen. Mohammed-Aminu Abdullahi has assumed duty as the 38th Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army Zaria, Kaduna state.

A statement by Capt. Iliya Dauda, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations Officer of the Depot, said on Wednesday in Zaria that the new commandant took over the affairs of the school on Tuesday.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abdullahi took over from Maj.-Gen. Peter Malla who was redeployed to 7 Division Nigeria Army, as General Officer Commanding.

Malla while handing over, commended officers and soldiers of the depot for their support during his ten months tour of duty, and urged them to extend same support to the new commander.

He said he made deliberate efforts to drive the administrative, training and logistic activities of the Depot to address contemporary and future security threats in the country.

Malla said there was deliberate rejigging of the depot’s training activities to ensure that recruits were well trained in accordance with the realities of contemporary operating environment of the Nigerian Army.

He thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja for his support to the school.

In his remarks, the new commandant appreciated Malla for his laudable achievements, and pledged to consolidate on them to move the school forward.

He said he will operate in line with the COAS command philosophy to `transform the Nigerian Army into a well- trained, equipped and highly motivated force towards achieving our constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment’.

Abdullahi thanked the COAS for giving him the opportunity to serve, and urged officers and men to cooperate and support him to succeed in the training of the Nigerian Army’s foremost “fighting machines”.
